'Brigid's antenatal yoga classes were one of the best experiences of my pregnancy. I did them right up until week 39 and they helped me to stay supple, relax and learn some very useful breathing techniques for labour. But most importantly, they gave me an hour each week to really tune in to my baby. In the calming environment, doing the gentle stretches, I really felt like I was giving my unborn child some quality time and she seemed to respond to that. We now attend the postnatal classes together and my daughter enjoys them as much as me!' Ceri Perkins Birthlight Yoga for pregnancy is a method developed by Francoise Freedman of the Birthlight organisation to help women birth their babies 'lightly'. It focuses on integrating breath awareness with flowing dance-like sequences to strengthen, ease and open the pregnant body while helping the mind turn inward in preparation for the birth. The class also uses traditional asanas (poses), yoga breathing techniques and relaxation. This is a very friendly group. As well as the physical benefits you might find support from the group where there is room to share the anticipation and sometimes apprehension of being an expectant mum with other women who understand.
